Sales surge at half price booth
 | | Ticket deals: sales up this year | 17.JUL.08 Business is booming for the region’s half-price entertainment ticket program. Sales of last-minute half-priced theater, music and dance ducats through the Pittsfield Visitors Center and affiliated locations are up more than 40 percent compared to 2007.
“We are way above sales from last year,” said Linda Beach, who manages the annual summer program for the Berkshire Visitors Bureau.
On Saturday afternoon, a couple dozen bargain-hunters waited in line for the 2 p.m. release of tickets. The Colonial Theatre has begun charging a premium for eight sets of box seats in the historic South Street auditorium. To add to the uniqueness of the high-profile seats on the first and second levels, the theater is offering patrons in those seats a glass of champagne or sparkling water to sip during performances. 17.JUL.08 The price one pays for most entertainment tickets in the Berkshires is a couple dollars higher than the costs listed in brochures and calendars.
While they promote discounts, venues in the Berkshires also continue to add “convenience,” “handling” and “service” fees for the privilege of purchasing tickets.
Purchase tickets online or by phone for Tanglewood and $5.50 per ticket will be added to the listed price.
One mile away at Shakespeare & Company, there’s no fee for phone orders. But online purchases incur a $4.50 per ticket cost.
Call or order online tickets from the Williamstown Theatre Festival and there’s no per ticket fee, but there’s a $5 per order charge, whether one purchases one or 100 tickets. [more] | Summer meals program grows
